16:14, 05 August 2017
A man has been taken to hospital after a suspected acid attack outside of a fish and chip shop.
Police were called to Ian's Plaice - formerly known as Ernie's Plaice - in Thanet Way, Whitstable earlier this morning.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called to a report that a man was assaulted at a premises off the Thanet Way in Whitstable at 8.49am this morning.
"It was reported that a substance was thrown at him.
"A man has been taken to hospital. So far no arrests have been made but we have started to make enquiries."
The victim is believed to be a chef at the fish and chip shop.
The attack comes after it was announced anyone who carries acid could face up to four years in prison, or risks a life sentence if they attack someone.
The Crown Prosecution Service has issued tough new guidelines to judges following a number of attacks.
It's the first time it's issued rules specifically referring to acid or corrosive substances.
