Emergency services were called to a family home after a suspected arson attack.
Three fire engines attended the blaze in a ground floor flat in Harold Road in the Cliftonville area of Margate on Friday night.
Meanwhile paramedics and police were also called to the scene. The road was closed, but there were no reported injuries.
Firefighters used specialist breathing masks and a hose reel jet to douse the flames, then cleared the property of smoke using a high-pressure fan.
The fire brigade said the cause of the blaze is “believed to be deliberate” and said police are investigating.
