Ramsgate: first look at The Royal Victoria Pavilion Wetherspoon

14:50, 20 June 2017

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon is set to open the doors of The Royal Victoria Pavilion later this summer - but not without providing a first peek inside.

The building, on Harbour Parade, Ramsgate, is undergoing a £4 million development to transform it into a Wetherspoon pub.

It is a grade II listed building, and is due to open on Tuesday, August 29.

The popular pub chain is recruiting for its new pub in Ramsgate, set to be one of the largest in the country.

The company is looking to recruit 150 staff for The Royal Victoria Pavilion, having already recruited a number of staff for the pub through an open day held at East Kent College.

Pub manager Chris Whitbourn and Charlotte Mason are holding a further recruitment day on Thursday, June 29 in Ramsgate.

There will be two recruitment events on the day, one at 10am and the other at 2pm.

Chris said: “Charlotte and I are looking forward to opening the new-look pub on the iconic site in Ramsgate.

“The pub will be one of the largest, if not the largest in the UK, with a customer area of almost 11,000 square foot, plus a ground floor and first floor terrace.”

In April, firefighters tackled a blaze at the soon-to-be Wetherspoon.

A forklift caught alight and was completely destroyed, after crews used breathing apparatus and a main jet to tackle the fire on the ground floor of the building.

The opening date, however, was not changed as the damage was limited to the forklift.

The former casino and dance hall has stood derelict since 2008.

It previously suffered from neglect and serious damage caused by a fire in 2011.

People interested in applying for a job at the pub should visit the company’s website (www.jdwetherspooncareers.co.uk) before Sunday, June 25 to receive an invite to the recruitment event.
