Witnesses said several teens had been seen running around the town centre smashing bottles but this was not confirmed by police.

It is the latest incident involving groups of youngsters in the town after a huge brawl interrupted the first Broadstairs Summer Fireworks of the summer on July 17.

Organisers have been forced to postpone the remaining events of the summer including Wednesday's Water Gala fireworks.

Two girls arrested during the fracas in the harbour area have both been released from custody while investigations continue.

A 16-year-old from Ramsgate and a 15-year-old from Herne Bay were both arrested in Harbour Street on suspicion of affray and the older girl on suspicion of possessing cannabis.
