A Margate teenager has created a short film urging peers to practice safe sex after statistics reveal under 24s are responsible for half of sexually transmitted diseases.

Connor Aires, 19, teamed up with Fixers - a national charity working with young people - to make the film advocating a cautious approach between the sheets.

In the light-hearted clip, two teenagers discuss contraception methods before deciding whether or not to take the next step in their relationship.

The film called Young and Reckless was supported by the Youth Social Action Fund and ends with one of the characters being put off by their partner's lack of knowledge.

Connor, who won Kent County Council's Try Angle Award for achievement in personal development said: "Safe sex is really important. Young people don’t seem to understand that all it could take is one night without a condom and your life could change.

“They think that because it’s just the one time, they won’t catch anything.

“But it can leave you with life-changing diseases that you might not be able to get rid of.”

Fixers works with young people aged 16-25 helping them campaign on issues they feel strongly about.
