How about joining these enterprising and caring teenagers who will be doing something to improve the community they live in this Saturday, September 14?

The eight teenagers, aged 13-17, would like volunteers to join them for a Clean Up Cliftonville Day, meeting at 1pm at the Quarterdeck at Zion Place, opposite Aldi.

They are members of the Youth Action Community Group (YACG) based at Quarterdeck Youth Centre, all from the Czech Republic and attend various Thanet schools Group members have made flyers and posters for the day and would like as many local people as possible to get involved.

They are led by Kate Phaedona, who said the aim of Saturday was to discourage littering and to encourage respect for their community.

She explained: “The idea is that it is a community effort to litter pick and clean the streets of Cliftonville to make their community a nicer place to live.

“These young people feel very passionately about their community and wished that other people would have as much respect for their town as they do.

“They all positively contribute to the youth centre and are either senior members or young volunteers.

“They have all decided upon the theme of their first project and want the assumptions and attitudes towards the young people in the area to change following this event.”

Group members are Martyna Czala, Veronika Kucinska, Roman Drezi, Kevin Bagar , Vanessa Balogova and Jozef Dinko. The assistant group leader is Dean Jordan

YACG meets every other Thursday at Quarterdeck from 6.30-8.30pm and has been doing so since June. For more details, contact 01843 292927
