Community spirit is clearly not dead as shown by the plight of one of kmfm's listeners in Thanet.

After experiencing heavy snowfall overnight, Ann Collins from Margate, needed help gritting the small road of Rowe Close in the town to get to the elderly disabled lady she cares for.

She decided to contact kmfm DJ Johnny Lewis about the situation and moments after putting her plea out on air, gritters from Thanet District Council called up Johnny to say they were coming from Birchington to save the day.

"I realise this is only a minor road, but I made the request as I am a carer for my disabled friend" said Ms Collins.

"The approach down to the bungalows was so dangerous due to the ice it was impossible for me to get down to the lady I care for, who needs daily visits.

"By gritting the road they did not only help my friend, but the residents in the other bungalows - all of whom are elderly or disabled and have families or carers needing to get to them as well."

kmfm DJ Johnny added: "It took the Thanet District Council crew only about 10 seconds from my plea to the time they called.

"They were in Birchington, which is about four miles from Margate, so they made a special trip after hearing the plea."
