Labour MP Dr Steve Ladyman has become the first of the county’s MPs to disclose detailed receipts and claim forms submitted for his allowances.
As the public outcry over expenses continues, the Thanet South MP said he was publishing all his claim forms, alongside receipts, on his website “in the full interests of transparency” and because he was anxious to set an example.
The documents stretch back over four years.
In a statement on the website, he says: “People are understandably angry about what they’ve read in the newspapers and heard on the news in the last week but although copies of receipts and claim forms had been leaked to the Telegraph, the same information wasn’t available to MPs in a form we could publish until a few days ago.”
“In the interests of full transparancy I’ve now published everything I can via my website." He adds he hopes voters will not tar all MPs with the same brush as anger over the claims made by some of his colleagues shows no sign of abating.
The claim forms and receipts indicate the sums the MP has claimed for his second home allowance, incidental expenses and how he has spent money from the communications allowance - down to receipts for stamps and the printing of leaflets about his constituency surgery.
