Thanet's Dan Woodgate wins light heavyweight international masters crown on points
10:57, 11 March 2013
Dan Woodgate claimed the light heavyweight international masters title on Friday night with a points victory over Lithuanian Vygaudas Laurinkus.
The Minster, Thanet, boxer, pictured, was fighting 10 rounds for the first time at the Coronet Theatre in London, going into the fight with just one defeat from his previous nine professional outings.
The title fight topped the bill and Woodgate had to come back from a scare midway through when he was caught with a decent right-hander.
Woodgate, who had suffered with a stomach bug before the fight, had the crowd behind him and in the latter stages came on stronger.
Referee Robert Williams scored the fight 97-94 in his favour.
