An "amazing" primary school has achieved the highest possible Ofsted rating after pupils revealed they "look forward to lessons".
The education watchdog has this week rated St Peter-in-Thanet C of E Junior School in Broadstairs ‘Outstanding’ overall across four categories.
The authority branded the teaching curriculum “extremely ambitious” at the Grange Road site.
The school received the highest rating in four areas; leadership and management, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes; and personal development.
The site has gone from strength to strength over the past decade, having in 2013 scored ‘requires improvement’ and then in 2015 climbed to a ‘good’ rating.
And following the latest inspection in May, Ofsted said in its report: “Pupils rightly say that ‘this school is amazing’.
“Pupils and parents cannot talk highly enough about the care and support that pupils receive from their teachers.
“Leaders and staff set very high expectations for learning and behaviour so that all pupils thrive.
“Pupils come to school eager and ready to learn. This is because leaders have produced a highly effective and interesting curriculum, which inspires pupils to do their best.”
Inspectors found youngsters show “great respect for diversity” and are inclusive of those who are different.
And they also enjoy each other’s company, playing together in mixed-age groups during social times.
The report added: “Leaders have designed an exciting curriculum, which is extremely ambitious for all pupils.
“They have identified the key knowledge that pupils must know and revisit so that they build securely on their learning each year.”
Inspectors also found a “strong focus on reading in all subjects” - with those who may need more help being swiftly identified.
“Pupils enjoy reading books that are interesting, diverse and well matched to their age and ability,” the report added.
“They look forward to their lessons and engage with interest in their learning.
“As a result, learning takes place without interruption.
“Pupils enjoy school, and the vast majority attend often.
“Leaders use a range of successful strategies, including rewards and responsibilities, to improve the attendance of all groups.”
Head teacher Tim Whitehouse says he is “so proud” to share the report with everyone.
“It is a testament to the fantastic children and staff we have at St Peter’s and the incredible school we have made together,” he said.
“It’s a fantastic result. We are all so pleased that Ofsted came in and confirmed just how strong the school is in every aspect of what we do.
“It’s a testament to the hard work and commitment of our whole school community in building such an exceptional school. I am incredibly proud to lead such a wonderful school.
“I love the fact that Ofsted put our children at the heart of the report, with the very first line being, ‘Children rightly say that this school is amazing’.”
