The High Street joint is the county's highest rated eatery on TripAdvisor, with 472 of its 485 customers rating it 'excellent'.

Now, one of its burgers is in the running for the acclaimed title of the UK's best burger.

Facing off against efforts from 15 other eateries, the Please Sir! team will be appearing at Islington Electrowerkz in London on February 22, when the winner will be announced.

Its Limitless burger is a combination of Steak patties, bacon, red Leicester cheese, red onion jam and garlic aioli.

It costs £10, or £13 for an extra large version.

Founder Steve Lawrence says he was "absolutely ecstatic" at the nomination.

"It is amazing – from the beginning it has never been about the money, it is about being the best for us," he explained.

"We have had absolutely amazing reviews and have lovely feedback face-to-face, but it's nice to be recognised in a different way – and especially to be up against so many big names in the industry."

In October of last year, the independent company opened its second restaurant in Whitstable following rave reviews of its flagship site.

"Funnily enough, I was not originally envisioning a burger restaurant when we started, but after a couple of weeks I took a look at our menu and made the decision to make that move," said Mr Lawrence, 38.

"Each burger has a different story, and the restaurant took its own route in that way.

"It's not all about the product, it's about the people and that's what makes this work – the customers, the team and the staff have all formed a community.

"everyone loves it, it's crazy – it blows my mind!"

In 2021, KentOnline sent reporter Jack Dyson to test out the highly-rated burger restaurant. You can find out what he thought of it here.

Genna Ash-Brown, editor of Dine Out Magazine, which organises and runs the National Burger Awards, said: "With so many stellar entries flying in for this year’s National Burger Awards, narrowing it down to just 16 finalists really was a painstaking – and hunger-inducing – task.

"But we got there in the end – and what an exceptional line-up it is, packed with former winners, past competitors and feisty new entrants looking to leave their mark on a revered national stage. We can’t wait to get stuck in!”
