A top restaurant has been awarded with a prestigious dining award.

The Corner House in Minster has been given two AA Rosettes joining its sister restaurant in Canterbury to receive the accolade.

The eatery has twice been named Kent restaurant of the year at the Taste of Kent Awards and is a firm favourite among diners.

It was the first restaurant opened by chef Matt Sworder, who has worked under top chefs in London including Adam Byatt and Anthony Demetre, before setting up his own business in his home village.

Mr Sworder said: "I’m proud of my teams who work extremely hard to maintain consistently high standards. I’m doubly-delighted that Minster has now followed Canterbury in being awarded this

fantastic accolade. Huge thanks to the team, our suppliers and all our customers for their continued support."

The award is given to restaurants which regularly achieve high standards, consistency, precision in the cooking methods and attention to quality ingredients.

The Corner House Minster is housed within a 17th century building and the Canterbury restaurant is in the city centre in a 16th century former inn reportedly visited by Charles Dickens.

Earlier this year, Mr Sworder launched his first cookbook with a range of recipes about how to do "simple food really well".

The Corner House Cookbook features some 40 dishes which have proved popular at the restaurants in the past five years.
