Last Wednesday, the company had announced its closure on Facebook after 43 years.

A Facebook post said: "We would like to inform you all that after 43 years, Taft International has decided to close the doors.

"We decided that it is time for us to enjoy the simpler things in life without the stresses and strains of running a transport company, albeit, a very successful one.

"We have all had very enjoyable times over the years but we are now looking forward to a slower more relaxed pace of life.

"There have been the usual rumours circulating throughout the industry regarding the company’s decision but the truth is, we are going out while we are on top, it’s as simple as that.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our employees and customers, both past and present, in helping us make Taft International the success story that it has become.

"Thank you also to all our FB ‘likers’ for your support. We wish you all good luck in the future and thank you all again for your support."

The company was started in 1974, with its headquarters in Canterbury and a yard in Manston.
