Transport minister John Hayes has said he wants to look at all possibilities with regard to developments at Manston Airport.
And he hopes to visit the site next week for further discussions.
Speaking to Thanet Extra, Mr Hayes said: “This is a very important local and economic issue. Manston Airport has been an important part of life in Thanet and now we have an opportunity to put it right and build a brighter future.
“Could we have done this more quickly? Well a lot of work and discussion has already happened.
“I have talked with Roger Gale and believe he has done a great job representing the views of local people. But the government wants to engage with all people involved and look at all possibilities.
“We can’t anticipate the outcome at this stage but you have this guarantee – we will do our best. Complete commitment will be given and discussion will be looked at with an open mind. We need constructive and productive conversations.
“This issue crosses a number of departments including the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
“I spent many holidays in Thanet through my childhood so having this responsibility is personal and special for me.
“I remember Manston Airport as a boy and I want to explore all options and co-ordinate the best government response.”
