A council has finally taken action to remove an illegal travellers' camp parked next to Dreamland.

The group, which were set up next to Dreamland in Margate, have been at the venue for around nine weeks but have now been served with a legal notice ordering them to leave.

A Thanet District Council spokesman said the enforcement action was being taken after a court order had been ignored by the group - who have now reportedly moved on to the seafront car park in Ramsgate.

Officers from Kent Police and the council arrived at the site - the car park off Belgrave Road - this morning.

Travellers were first reported at the site in early January.

Pictures taken show extensive amount of waste generated at the camp with human excrement reportedly left strewn over the car park.

Residents and businesses have been complaining about the waste and rubbish piling up at the site and a lack of action being taken by the council to force them to leave.

Several notices were issued by the council but the group reportedly moved the vehicles around and returned.

But the travellers are now said to have parked up at the Marina Esplanade car park with the council now set to start a removal process again.
