Margate: Travellers take over Dane Valley Green

More than 20 caravans have pitched up on a park.

The traveller encampment has been on Dane Valley Green in Margate for several days and the number of vehicles has more than doubled since they first arrived.

Thanet council are due to visit the green and undertake checks to issue a notice to leave.

A council spokesman said: "We are aware of the illegal traveller encampment that has arrived at Dane Valley Green.

"Officers from Thanet District Council will visit the site in order to undertake the necessary welfare assessments and following that, as appropriate, the required notices will be issued."

It is not the first time travellers have taken over the area.

Back in August last year, a car abandoned by an encampment was set on fire and waste was left strewn across the park.
