Police called after trespassers on rails at Broadstairs Railway Station prompt power to be cut

Rail services were affected this evening after trespassers on the line of a railway station prompted the power to be switched off.

Passengers travelling to and from Broadstairs Railway Station were held up due to the incident.

British Transport Police was called to the scene shortly after 8.20 pm, when concerns were raised over a person’s welfare.

Southeastern posted on X at around 8.30 pm this evening to say: “Because of trespassers on the railway in the Broadstairs area, no trains can run through the station.

“Power to the line has been switched off. More to follow.”

Trains returned to normal service at around 9.30 pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said in a statement: “Officers were called to a concern for welfare at Broadstairs Railway Station just after 8.20pm yesterday.

“Officers attended and the person was taken to a place of safety to receive appropriate care.”
