Canterbury Christ Church university assessing future of Broadstairs campus after art centre plans approved

A university campus could shut after plans for a new multi-million pound art centre were approved.
Bosses at Canterbury Christ Church university are assessing the future of their Broadstairs campus in Northwood Road.
They want to move the arts and humanities courses currently taught at the site to the new £11m centre in Canterbury from September next year.
One resident, who did not give their name, said: "Multiple members of staff have pointed out several flaws in the arguments to close the campus.
"The loyal, dedicated staff were told the campus was failing when it is clear to everyone and can be backed up with statistics that it has been a success.
"It has indeed been management decisions that have both failed the staff, students and local community and Broadstairs is being blamed for the wider failings of the struggling university."
Christ Church expects to begin work on the new three-floor building, which will be built in a car park at the North Holmes Road campus in Canterbury, this month.
Staff consultation meetings have been held about the future of the Broadstairs campus and a result of the review is expected soon.
Spokesman Jeanette Earl said: "Canterbury City Council recently gave planning permission for a new arts building at our main campus in Canterbury.
"These plans included the transfer of arts and humanities courses at Broadstairs to Canterbury in September 2018, bringing the courses and student experience together on one site and in a new facility.
"Discussions are continuing to explore how these changes, and others in our estate master plan, impact on our campuses, including our Broadstairs campus.
"No decisions have been made on changes to our estate, beyond those we have committed to in our estate master plan."
