There are hours left to vote for the Broadstairs Town Shed which is tonight hoping to win a £50,000 slice of cash from the Big Lottery Fund.

The project for a town shed initiative to provide a community hub for social activities goes head to head with another scheme tonight for The People’s Millions on ITV Meridian East.

It will be up against the Newhaven Community Development Association’s Food 4 Seahaven: Community Kitchen.

The one with the most votes by the end of the night wins the money.

The Broadstairs project has been designed to share DIY skills across generations. Primarily, it will target men but the service will be available to the whole community.

A fundamental aim is to reduce isolation, promote health and wellbeing and enhance community cohesion.

There will be a short film about the project on Meridian tonight at around 6pm.

Tomorrow, it will be the turn of another Thanet project, Ellington Park Wildlife Garden in Ramsgate, to gather votes and hopefully earn funding.

The garden project will aim to gather more phone votes then funding competitior Herne Bay Coastal Park.

The wildlife Garden will give Ramsgate’s community a wildlife area within the park to promote conservation. The new area will include a new pond, indigenous plants and wildlife habitats. The project will provide volunteering opportunities for both young and older people, allowing different age groups to mix and helping create community cohesion.

Since The People’s Millions began in 2005 the competition has funded over 520 diverse community projects UK-wide with an incredible £27.8 million in Big Lottery Fund good cause money.
