A heroic dog walker intervened when a teenager armed with an air weapon stole a schoolboy's mountain bike.

The victim, a secondary school pupil, was with friends by the swing in the park near The Silvers in Broadstairs when a teenage boy approached and spoke to the group.

The suspected asked to borrow the boy's bike before threatening him, and was seen to have an air weapon.

The robber then stole the bike - however a woman walking a dog nearby intervened and returned the bike to the boy.

The suspected was described as a white boy, around 15-year-old, between 5ft 3ins to 5ft 8ins tall with a slim build and short brown hair.

It happened on Saturday at about 4.40pm.

Detective sergeant Claire Munday said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who might have been in the park at the time, especially the woman who helped to return the bicycle to the victim."

Any witnesses are asked to call police on 01843 222289, quoting 46/35896/19, or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
