Christmas is caged in Cliftonville this year.
Shoppers took to social media after seeing the town's festive tree behind bars in Northdown Road.
The high metal fence which surrounds the tree is decorated with advertisements for businesses in the area.
Organisers say the fence was erected to prevent people from grabbing the branches.
But residents have taken to Twitter in a campaign to remove the bars.
KM reporter Jodie Nesling said: "FREE THE CLIFTONVILLE ONE: #FestiveFriday #freethetree".
