An elderly woman was pronounced dead at a care home after "a tragic accident" when concerns were raised for her welfare.
Emergency services were called to Grosvenor Court home in First Avenue, Cliftonville, shortly after 11.50pm last night.
Police and ambulance crews attended but the woman, who was in her 80s, died at the scene.
Officers are carrying out inquiries into the circumstances of her death, which is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be filed for the coroner.
Next of kin have been notified, police said.
Grosvenor Court, which was rated good on its latest CQC inspection, says it is investigating along with police, the CQC and Kent County Council and other authorities.
In a statement, directors for Premiere Care, which runs the care home, said: "We regrettably confirm that Kent Police were called to The Grosvenor Care Home to investigate an incident and we confirm a resident at our home was sadly found deceased.
"At this sad time, we would like to offer our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
"We confirm that along with our own internal investigation, we are thoroughly assisting the police, fire service, CQC, Kent County Council and Adult Safeguarding with their investigations into this tragic accident and will continue to do so.
"Until such time as the investigation of the authorities has taken place, we are natually unable to comment further."
