Young politicians, including Thanet representative Amy Wright, will be discussing their future campaigns on Saturday, April 24 at County Hall, Maidstone.
The meeting of the South East branch of the Youth Parliament marks the first time that the county has ever staged such an event, and provides an opportunity for the forum to discuss topics that affect teenagers.
Amy Wright (pictured right) is the deputy MYP for Thanet and believes the meeting will be crucial for gathering ideas together. She said “It is vital that we work together in our regions to ensure that we can get as much work done as possible towards the main campaigns of the Youth Parliament.”
Scrapping university fees and reduced public transport costs for under-18s are some of the issues that will be talked about at the meeting.
Amy, who is also a member of the Kent Youth County Council, said: “There are grants and loans available to those that need it, but I believe that higher education should be available to everybody, regardless of their financial status.”
Sixty members of the UK Youth Parliament that represent Kent, selected in annual elections, will be at the gathering.
MYP’s organise and run events and projects, and influence decision makers on issues that are important to young people.
