Margate moved two points clear at the top of the Ryman League Premier Division on Tuesday night.
Knowing a win would have left their title rivals Maidstone United four points adrift, Terry Brown's side travelled to Wingate & Finchley having not won away since the start of October.
They fell behind to a David Knight strike on 58 minutes.
But it was all-square, 12 minutes later, when Luke Moore pounced on a poor backpass to net the equaliser.
Margate, who have now played three games more than Maidstone, are away to VCD Athletic on Saturday.
They could be five points clear by the time Stones play their FA Cup tie at Stevenage on Sunday.
