Margate’s unbeaten light-heavyweight boxer Paul Brown has turned his attention to Tommy Fury after failing to lure a fellow Kent fighter into the ring.

‘The Bomber’ Brown is eyeing a September return after his May 30 appearance at Mote Park in Maidstone was scrapped because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He was keen to face Bromley’s unbeaten Jack Owen (3-0-1) but his attempts were dismissed and he’s even called out Chris Eubank Jnr (29-2) without success. Since then Fury’s team have been in touch about a possible fight.

“I am confident of beating whoever is infront of me,” said the 30-year-old Brown.

“I’m not getting any younger and want to go for the Southern Area title soon and Jack Owen will be the same but his manager Steve Goodwin has other plans for him. He says he doesn’t want it. I am confident I would beat him and hopefully soon he won’t have a choice.

“I have sparred Chris Eubank Jnr before and bashed him up in four of the six rounds. He is calling out Triple G (two-time middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin) but why not fight me? He’s not replied.

“I have been told though that Tommy Fury’s camp are looking at boxing me over 10 rounds. I would take the fight and I would beat him. He’s won three, a couple of KOs but his opponents have been crap.

“Tommy has got millions of followers on instagram and facebook and so it would certainly be good publicity for me. People would be saying who is Paul Brown? It would certainly get me noticed and would be live on TV too.”

Tommy Fury (3-0) was a star of the reality TV programme Love Island last year and is the half brother of two-time heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. After taking time out for the TV show, Tommy returned to the ring in December, scoring a TKO win against Przemyslaw Binienda.

Brown’s last fight was on February 29 at Mote Park, after a 16-month bout of inactivity because if a perforated ear drum. He defeated Andy Bishop (0-13) 40-36 on points, making it his fifth shut-out points win, having never lost a single round yet.

That win came after an early scare, however. A head clash in the first few seconds saw Brown suffer a huge cut above his right eye, which required an extended inspection from the ringside doctor, before eventually allowing the contest to continue.

He was hoping to step up to a six round match in May, having won his previous five over four rounds. Ten rounds wouldn’t bother him though.

“I do 12 in sparring without struggling,” he said.

“When I am in camp I am fit and I have a strict diet. It wouldn’t be a problem.”

While gym work is off limited, Brown keeps himself ticking over with regular eight mile runs but his job is keeping him busy too, delivering post.

“I am doing 13-14 hour shifts and it is so busy right now,” said the postie. “The amount of parcels we are delivering is crazy!”

“As soon as we can get back into the gym the weight will come down.”

The former ABA Southern Counties champion is part of the Boxing Connected stable and trains at Ramsgate ABC with former pro Sammy Holloway and Liam McKeown.
