Margate gave their title bid a boost as they moved to within eight points of leaders Maidstone with two games in hand.

Zac Attwood was the star of their Ryman League Premier Division win against Peacehaven & Telscombe, setting them up nicely for their must-win clash against second-placed Hendon on Thursday.

Margate should have gone in front after just four minutes after Lewis Taylor rounded Peacehaven keeper Anthony Di Bernardo and pulled it back to Ryan Moss, but the striker cleared the bar from eight yards.

Freddie Ladapo was next to go close on 16 minutes, but headed straight at Di Bernardo, before Moss saw an effort cleared off the line a minute later.

Gate continued to push forward with Ladapo putting an effort over from a Moss flick. The same pair combined well four minutes later, on 23 minutes, but this time Di Barnardo produced a fine save to deny Ladapo from close range.

The keeper again came out on top to deny Ladapo a minute later, saving his shot from the edge of the box as Gate continued their relentless pressure.

Just after the half-hour, two Sam Rents crosses caused panic in the home defence, Ladapo headed straight at Di Barnardo and Moss headed over.

The ball just wouldn't go in for Gate, with the home side clearing a goalmouth scramble, before going up the other end and almost taking the lead four minutes before the break. But Gate keeper Nikki Bull was equal to Steve Metacalf's free-kick and tipped it wide.

Gate keeper Nikki Bull was replaced at half-time by Matt Armstrong-Ford after suffering a blow to the head, and three minutes into the second half, the away side finally took the lead - to the relief of manager Terry Brown.

Attwood the scorer, turning in Antony Riviere's shot from the left.

Gate didn't sit back and almost doubled their lead a minute later, Moss' drive producing a sharp save by Di Barnardo.

Attwood doubled the lead on 65 minutes, beating Di Barnardo after a fine through ball from Lewis Taylor.

Moss had another effort fly wide, while Kane Wills was denied by Di Barnardo, while at the other end Armstrong-Ford saved well with his legs when Jordan Stubbings got in behind the Margate defence.
