Manager Reece Prestedge claims he’s happy with Margate’s Isthmian Premier squad now after a busy week.

Gate have brought in two players while the loan of teenage Gillingham winger Matty Macarthur has been extended.

Dartford recalled Cameron Brodie from his own loan stint at Hartsdown Park last week, with the midfielder having since joined Ashford, but Prestedge’s squad certainly appears to be in a healthier position.

Prestedge said: “I think that’s it now.

"We’re very happy with what we have. We have added in the areas we needed to.

“Unless anything pops up, I’m pleased where the squad is at.”

Recent recruits Yaser Kasim and on-loan Tonbridge forward Ruben Soares-Junior both came off the bench in Gate’s goalless draw at fourth-placed Enfield.

Midfielder Kasim, 31, played more than 100 times for Swindon and is a full Iraqi international. He started the season at Welling but has spent the past month with Gloucester.

“He will bring a lot on the experience side of it,” said Prestedge. “Obviously, he has quality.

“He’s good on the ball and will be someone to keep it ticking over when we need to. He was quite a vital signing if I’m honest.

“We needed someone to game manage, especially when we don’t have Blacky [midfielder Sam Blackman].

"He’s someone we have targeted to get in so we’re pleased with that one.”

Soares-Junior adds versatility in the final third as Margate aim to ease any lingering fears of relegation.

Prestedge added: “He’s someone who can play anywhere along the top three positions.

“We needed someone with that versatility. We still have a job to do to get clear of the bottom.

“We need to start scoring and creating more so, hopefully, he will bring that to the table.”

Brodie scored six goals during his 28 appearances in all competitions. His loan was extended until the end of the season in January but now has been cut short.

Prestedge explained: “Dartford called him back. They wanted him to play week-in, week-out.

“But there’s no bad vibes or anything. I certainly understand from Brodie’s point of view and wish him well.

“He’s a good player, always works hard for the team, and he gave 100 per cent.

"As a player, they’re decisions you want to make sooner rather than later.”

Margate have also extended 18-year-old Macarthur’s loan until the end of the season. Prestedge thinks the Gills man has a big future in the game.

He said: “Matty has been brilliant since he came in.

“Obviously, he’s a very young lad. But when he plays, he looks like he has been playing games for years.

“He’s very technical but gives a lot of hard work as well. I think he has quite a good career in football ahead of him.”

On the field, it’s been a good week for Gate, too.

Their creditable draw against Enfield came after they progressed to the Kent Senior Cup semi-final with a 3-0 home win over Cray Valley last Tuesday. Player-of-the-match Taylor Fisher bagged a brace - including a fine solo goal - while winger James Bessey-Saldanha netted too.

Now, Margate’s attention turns to this Saturday’s home fixture against second-bottom Corinthian-Casuals.

“Your home games should really be maximum points,” insisted Prestedge.

“The point last Saturday means nothing if you don’t get three points this Saturday. There’s no point doing all that hard work to give it up on home turf.

“It will be a tough game but one we should be able to get three points from.”

Midfielder Sam Blackman is set to return from a ban and Prestedge admits he’ll have some tough decisions to make.

He said: “We will have near-enough a full squad to choose from and a couple [will be] out of the squad, to be honest. That will just be a decision we have to make.

“It’s tough but we have a job to do and, however we go, we see that as the best team to go out and win the game.”

Defender Emmanuel Oke remains suspended.
