Mike Sandmann believes Margate can beat anyone in the Bostik Premier when they are at their best.

Gate look to bounce back from taking a point in two games over the Bank Holiday weekend.

They will face newly-promoted Lewes at home on Saturday.

Joint-manager Sandmann said: “If we are at our best we can beat all teams in this league.

“It will be a tough game against Lewes but we will look to bounce back from the weekend’s games and get a positive result.

“They’ve had some good results and kept some clean sheets.

“We have to approach the game in how we want to perform.

“We need to impose ourselves in the game and then play some of the football we want to play.”

On Saturday, Margate were beaten 2-0 at home to Tonbridge Angels, who scored throughThomas Beere and Alex Reid.

That match had an attendance of 648, which was the highest in the Bostik Premier on Saturday.

Sandmann said: “It was disappointing with the manner we conceded the goals. It was a tight and tough game.

“They haven’t conceded a goal and you can see why. Steve McKimm does a great job with them and gets them organised.

“We did create chances. I felt that if we had taken one of those chances we could have got something out of the game.

“We always talk about the 12th man and it’s always a bit of a cliché but it is so true.

“We do appreciate the support we get. To get the highest attendance in the league on Saturday is great and it was a shame we couldn’t send them away with three points.”

Gate followed this up with a 0-0 draw at Whitehawk on Monday and that point puts them ninth in the table after five games.

Sandmann said: “Frustrating is the word I would use. They’ve had one chance all game and that was after we changed formation to win the game and opened ourselves up a bit.

“We limited them to one chance and created lots and lots. We did more than enough to win the game and we just needed that quality in the final third.

“We were inches away and if we had scored early we would have gone on to score more.”
