Dave Martin says Margate need to rediscover their ruthless streak if they are to cling onto their Bostik Premier play-off spot.

The winger's 12th minute goal had looked like being the game's decisive moment against Enfield at Hartsdon on Saturday only for visiting substitute Dernell Wynter to bundle home a 90th minute equaliser.

It was the second week running the Blues had conceded late on and Martin says they've got to make sure the dropped points don't end up being too costly.

He explained: "It's a bit hard to take (the Enfield result), it feels more like a defeat than a draw but that's how it's been the last few games really.

"We should definitely have won three of the last four or five games, we've got to start being a bit more ruthless in front of goal and a bit harder defending our goal.

"We started the game well, it's the consistency we're struggling with at the moment, the previous weekend (a 2-2 draw against Met Police) we didn't start well but finished strongly.

"Against Enfield we started well but finished badly which is something we've got to address. The plus side is we didn't lose and it's four games unbeaten. It's hard but you've got to try and look at the positives."

Despite being without a win in five Margate remain fourth and still have to play several of their promotion rivals including Dulwich Hamlet (top), Billericay (second), Staines (seventh), and Folkestone (second), who they visit on Easter Monday.

Martin added: "We're still in there but as each week goes past we're making it tough for ourselves. Realistically we want to get those points now and not be waiting.

"It's going to come to a stage when it's going to be taken out of our hands and we're not going to be in the driver's seat so we've got to make sure we're back on it next week.

"We're playing teams that are around us so there's an opportunity to take points off each other. It's going to be a big last seven games but home or away I don't think it matters now.

" The main thing is we've got to start being more ruthless and see games out when we get in front."
