Margate boss Andy Drury is happy with his summer business to date - but he’s having to be patient before completing his squad.

Three or four more additions are needed before the start of the 2022/23 campaign with midfielder Adam Topley the latest to join the Isthmian Premier League side.

Pre-season training started on Tuesday and their first game back is a week on Saturday against Glebe.

Drury said: “We kept the ones we wanted to from last year bar one or two who have moved on to higher things. We have added Taylor Fisher, Harry Hudson, Kieron McCann, Adam Topley and a couple of young ones in Emmanuel Oluwasemo and Troy Howard.

“The players coming in are here for the right reasons, they fit in well and we are on the lookout for three or four others, which I'm pretty confident we will find over the next three or four weeks.

“A lot of money is floating around in our league and the one below, it is tough but we’ve signed the players we have wanted to sign. They are good players and will help strengthen the team.

“We are pleased with the business we have done and we are just on the lookout for those to strengthen us further and try and kick on next year.

“We are close to one or two, it might take one or two weeks, there are players we have spoken to who have gone on trial at Conference South clubs. We are just playing a bit of a waiting game with some of them at the moment. We are not in a position where we can go and offer silly money to people, we have to bide our time to get the right players in.”

Topley, 24, is a player Drury believes complements Gate’s midfield. The newcomer started his career at Colchester and Southend, moved to Concord and then Heybridge Swifts.

“Adam is a different option for us in centre midfield,” said Drury. “He is more of a sitting midfielder, will look to get us playing, to get us on the ball. He is a box-to-box player and we have Kieron McCann who is more of an attacking midfielder and they can complement each other.

“We want one more in central midfield if we can get one. We are still looking to strengthen our defensive area and forward area as well, possibly one more as well.

“If we have to bide our time during the start of pre-season to get the right players in then we will.”

Experienced defender Lewis Knight has committed for another season at the club but midfielder Montel Agyemang has moved to Billericay after a year with Margate.
