New manager Mark Stimson saw his Margate side suffer an Isthmian Premier defeat at home to Carshalton on Saturday.
Midfielder Bradley Williams got the only goal on 57 minutes as ex-Gillingham boss Stimson, named as Reece Prestedge’s successor in the week, lost 1-0 in his first game in charge at Hartsdown Park in front of a crowd of 343.
Gate, who are 17th in the table, remain a point clear of the relegation zone but now have played two league fixtures more than fourth-bottom Potters Bar.
Second-placed Chatham suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Hastings.
Forward Davide Rodari put the visitors into a two-goal half-time lead at the Bauvill Stadium and, although substitute Ben Allen pulled one back for Chats just before the hour mark, Kevin Hake’s side could not find an equaliser.
Gillingham loanee Alex Giles, 18, made his Chatham bow against Hastings while fellow teenager Harvey Broad also shone in the loss and was named as the sponsors’ man-of-the-match.
Two-goal Sheppey striker Dan Bradshaw guided them to a 3-0 Isthmian South East home success against East Grinstead.
His brace, as he continues his injury comeback, was sandwiched by fellow frontman Javaun Splatt’s third club goal in front of a 275-strong crowd at Holm Park.
Ernie Batten’s Ites are now two points behind fifth-placed Sevenoaks, beaten 3-2 by fourth-bottom Phoenix Sports.
Experienced winger Ryan Hayes netted in either half for the hosts at the Mayplace Ground - his opening goal in the 12th minute a 40-yard strike - and his second coming after Matthew Attenborough-Warren had levelled for Oaks.
Youngster Daniel Duncanson made it 3-1 in the 77th minute. Striker Daniel Carr gave Sevenoaks hope in the 80th minute but there was to be no equaliser.
All other scheduled weekend matches were postponed due to the weather while Herne Bay are set to play Chichester at Bognor tomorrow.
