Striker Freddie Ladapo admitted that a weight had been lifted off the players' minds following Margate's first home win of the season, against Truro City, on Saturday.

Ladapo scored one and created two in the Gate's 4-1 FA Cup third qualifying round victory and he is now hoping they can build on that performance to improve their 19th position in Vanarama National League South. The win was their first, in eight attempts, at Hartsdown Park.

Ladapo, whose equaliser was the catalyst for the Gate's comeback, admitted he feared the worst when the Blues fell behind after only eight minutes.

He said: "Of course you're always going to think 'Wow (not) again, another one of the stories that have been happening at home all season so you think it might be the same story.

"When you try so hard week in week out and it does not come off you do get down but you just have to keep going and obviously it paid off today.

"(Not winning at home) Plays on all our of our minds. We go home and we don't have good weekends.

"The whole weekend you are thinking about that game and thinking why can't our home form be better? I'm just hoping that we (can) carry on as we did and (keep) improving."

Ladapo's goal was his fourth of the campaign but he revealed he still has some way to go before he reaches the target set for him by manager Terry Brown.

The 22-year-old former Kidderminster man added:"The gaffer set me a target and I'm trying to get there as quick as possible. He told me 22-25 which is a lot isn't it?

"That's why you see me with my head in my hands every time I miss because it's a long way away!"

Margate continue their league campaign away to second-placed Oxford City on Saturday.
