The managerial saga at Ramsgate has taken another twist - with Ben Smith back as interim boss.

Smith left by mutual consent last month just a matter of weeks after he’d been confirmed as manager for the 2024/25 season.

He was swiftly replaced by Tony Russell but he resigned on Friday after only 25 days in charge.

Rams teased an interim appointment on social media before last night’s home friendly against Bearsted - and it turned out to be Smith.

He oversaw a 3-2 victory with goals from Zack Jobe (2) and Joe Taylor.

The news went down well with Ramsgate fans who were disappointed to see Smith leave Southwood in the first place.

Rams reached the FA Cup second round for the first time in their history under him and slugged it out with Cray Valley for the Isthmian South East title.

They achieved a club record 89 points and scored 106 league goals but were pipped by the Millers before losing to Chichester in the play-off semi-finals.

Smith spoke of his affection for the club in an interview with KentOnline at the end of June following his departure.

“I wish Ramsgate all the best,” he said. “I’ve no ill feeling towards anyone there.

“I’m not going to say Ramsgate isn’t a fantastic club just because I’m not the manager any more, because it is.

“It’s a fantastic club, with fantastic people.

“It’s a shame I’m not involved any more but that’s life and that’s football.

“I genuinely want to see Ramsgate promoted - genuinely.”
