Margate's winless run in the Bostik Premier is up to five games after they were pegged back by a last-minute equaliser at Hartsdown Park on Saturday.
Martin's tidy 12th minute finish looked like being enough to see off a dogged Enfield side but there was an unwelcome sting in the tale as substitute Dernell Wynter bundled home at the near post.
Steve Watt's men remain without win since beating Burgess Hill 2-0 on February 17 - although their last four games have all been draws, three of them away from home.
The Gate side showed two changes to that which had drawn at Met Police last weekend with Tom Mills starting in place of the injured Ben Swift (hamstring) and Sam Blackman returning after suspension to replace Lee Prescott, who dropped to the bench.
Defender George Essuman, who re-signed on loan from Dover on Wednesday, was another of the substitutes.
Top scorer Jordan Chiedozie missed out due to the second game of his two-match suspension while long-term knee injury victim Chris Sessegnon has now joined Kane Haysman on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
The Blues made a positive start with visiting keeper Joe Wright smothering from Sam Blackman at the far post inside five minutes as the midfielder tried to get on the end of Martin's hanging cross.
That was the game's first first chance and from the second, on 12 minutes, the Gate went ahead as Mills' cross was flicked on by Frannie Collin and Martin side-footed into the roof of the net at the far post.
Mills then tried his luck with a low drive well saved to his right by Wright and Collin might have won a penalty when he was clipped inside the box by ex Margate midfielder Matt Johnson but to his credit the home striker stayed on his feet.
Collin also forced Wright to block at close-quarters and at this stage Margate looked comfortable.
However Enfield - with just two wins to show from17 away games - began to enjoy greater possession towards the end of the half and there was a warning shot for Gate on 32 minutes, when keeper Lenny Pidgeley was forced to save with his feet from substitute Sam Youngs.
There was another scare two minutes after the restart when a poor clearance by Mills was latched onto by Mickey Parcell whose dangerous cross just eluded the head of striker Wadkins.
Soon after goalscorer Martin tested Wright with a rising drive that the keeper tipped over and the Gate winger then teed-up Collin who fired an fierce shot into the side netting.
Enfield's Matt Mitchell-King produced a great block to deny Aaron Simpson at the far post on the hour but the Gate then seemed to go into their shells allowing Enfield more of the ball again.
However they failed to really create a chance and the Gate looked to have taken the points until Youngs' 90th minute corner to the near post was flicked on and Wynter beat Pidgeley from close range.
