Lloyd Blackman expects some late movement in the transfer market as he bids to make Ramsgate competitive in Bostik South East.

It's not been an easy summer for the Rams head coach as he's seen targets go elsewhere for more money or less travelling.

But Blackman remains confident that some choice additions will help get the best out of his talented young squad.

He said: "There will be a food chain coming down soon of players here, there and everywhere.

"We've done a lot of miles and made a lot of phone calls but generally, the people I wanted, we were unable to push over the line for one reason or another.

"You roll with the punches, move on and look at other players who are going to improve us.

"You're sometimes fighting geography and, most of the time, finances. It's tough but you can't get despondent. Players make their decisions and you move on.

"It's there to see (who is spending the most) but that's not our model and we don't have the resources some other clubs have.

"What we do have is a very beneficial and successful academy. There's a crop of players coming through that I gave opportunities to last year and I'm hoping to see even more progression from them this year.

"If we can add some players to help their progression, I feel we should have a decent season."

Ramsgate host Folkestone on Saturday before continuing their pre-season with a game at Deal on Tuesday.
