Ramsgate manager Ben Smith says it will feel strange going back to former club Herne Bay.

Smith led Bay, now managed by ex-Rams boss Steve Lovell, to promotion before leaving last November.

Bay are back in Isthmian South East following relegation and host Rams at Winch’s Field tomorrow (3pm).

“It’ll be strange going back to Herne Bay,” said Smith, whose side thrashed Littehampton 4-0 at home on Saturday thanks to Joe Taylor’s double and goals from Lee Martin and Jack Parter.

“I’ve got some great memories there.

“The hardcore supporters were unbelievable and I’d still buy them a drink to this day.

“The level of support they gave me and the players, they were fantastic.

“They’ve got some ex-Ramsgate players as well, so we’ll have to deal with the extra 10% they bring for that game.

“To be honest, we’ll have to get used to that because everyone we face is going to bring an extra 10%.

“We can’t keep talking about it, we’ve got to get on with it.

“It’s well documented the off-the-pitch issues Herne Bay have had and hopefully they can get those sorted because they’ve got good players there and good people running the team in Steve and Mark (Lovell, Steve’s son and assistant manager).

“I’m not one who wants everyone else to fail after I’ve been at a club.

“It’s not about that but I think the survival of their club is probably the most important thing behind the scenes right now, as opposed to how well they do in the league.”

Herne Bay go into the game on the back of a 2-1 win at East Grinstead, ex-Rams players Gil Carvalho and Kane Rowland the scorers.
