Canine residents of Tonbridge - and their human companions - are invited to put their best paw forward at the town's annual dog show.

As part of national Love Parks Week, the event will also have a serious side. Staff on hand will discuss responsible dog ownership and encourage pet owners to help keep the borough's park's clean and tidy.

Organised by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council's dog warden, Lorrain Baseden, the dog show will take place at Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground on Sunday, July 26.

All proceeds will go to The Brain Tumour Trust and All Dogs Rescue.

Everyone is welcome to bring their dogs along to take part in the show. There will be a variety of pedigree and novelty classes, including Gun Dog, Working/Pastoral, Most Appealing Eyes, Fancy Dress and Waggiest Tail.

Registration starts at 10am with judging of classes from 11.30 until approximately 4pm, when prizes will be presented to the winner of each category.

It costs £1.50 per class to enter a dog at the show. Free Micro-chipping will also be available from 11.30am onwards as well as a host of information on responsible dog ownership issues.

Cllr Jill Anderson, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing and environment services, said: “I do hope people will come along and enter their dogs into this fun event, which is the perfect opportunity to meet new people and their pets, find out more about responsible dog ownership and raise money for two worthwhile charities at the same time.”
