Police are hunting an oddly-dressed "fat" man who punched a taxi driver to the ground and hurled racist abuse at him.

The attack happened in Elmshurst Gardens in Tonbridge while the cabbie was waiting for a customer.

He was sitting in his taxi when a man walked past and knocked into his wing mirror. When the driver confronted him, he was racially abused and punched to the ground.

The attack happened between 6.45pm and 7pm on Christmas Day, and police are now appealing for witnesses.

The suspect is described as a "fat" white man, aged 50 to 60 and wearing glasses, shorts, sandals and a winter hat. A woman was also with him at the time.

PC Simon Winder said: "Kent Police takes hate crime very seriously and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this assault.

"The suspect would have stood out as he was wearing shorts and sandals despite the cold weather, so I'm hopeful somebody would have remembered seeing him before, during or after the attack."
