A heart screening scheme to detect cardiac conditions in athletes will be launched next week.

Tonbridge Angels FC will start assessing all players on Saturday, January 9, as a response to the tragic death of trialist Junior Dian in a pre-season friendly.

The 24-year-old collapsed and died during a match against Whyteleafe FC in July.

The club, along with other Kent and South East clubs and sporting bodies, raised £21,000 through the Football Fightback campaign to kick start the programme.

The screenings, which were achieved with the help of charity CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young and cost £35 each, will eventually be rolled out across the region.
