Tonbridge: Crash closes A21 northbound between A228 and A26

A driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after his car left the A21 and crashed into a fence.

The Tonbridge bypass was closed for nearly seven hours heading northbound after the smash where a white Jaguar XF left the road at around 8.30am between the A228 near Pembury and the A26.

Police and ambulance crews attended the scene, which has been described as "serious" by Highways England.

The road reopened shortly after 3pm.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to assist with the release of a man who was trapped in a car following a single-vehicle crash on the London-bound carriageway of the A21 at the Vauxhall interchange.

"Crews used hydraulic cutting gear tot free the casualty, who was passed in to the care of Secamb."

A police spokesperson confirmed officers were called to the single-vehicle crash, adding: "A car has left the road and collided with a fence.

"Officers are at the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service, where a man is being taken to hospital with injuries."
