Members of a Kent bonfire society are set to reveal who will be burnt at the stake this year.

Each year one celebrity wins the dubious honour of being tied up and torched at the Edenbridge Bonfire Night - or at least their effigy does.

Previous torching targets have been a real mixture of figures including former 11th President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, who went up in flames last year, failed Apprentice contestant, Katie Hopkins, both of the Blairs, Gordon Brown and footballer Mario Balotelli.

Bets are already in for who will be the face of the huge effigy which will be burnt at the famous event on Saturday, November 7.

The latest William Hill odds show current FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, is 3/1 to be the face in the fire, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is the second favourite with 5/1 odds and head coach of the English national rugby union team, Stuart Lancaster, is in third with 8/1.

Also in the top 10 are Nicola Sturgeon, Jeremy Corbyn and Kim Jong Un.

A William Hill spokesman said: "In the unofficial villain of the year, it is perhaps unsurprisingly Sepp Blatter who tops the betting to be the celebrity Guy at the Edenbridge Bonfire.”

A spokesman for the Edenbridge Bonfire Society said: "This is by far and above the biggest event in the Edenbridge calendar and very much more than a local firework party.

"The organisers are hoping that more than ten thousand will attend, with families coming from London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

"Over the years the team of volunteer organisers has worked extremely hard with the local council and local businesses in order to create a unique family event and a whole evening’s worth of entertainment, culminating in an outstanding and professional firework display."

The effigy will be revealed on Wednesday, November 4 ahead of the bonfire celebration.

The event itself will begin at 6.30pm when a torch lit procession of around 500 people will tour through the town.

Advance tickets for the firework display (Adults £6, Children £3) are now on sale in local shops. Adult entry costs £6 and child entry is £3.

Alternatively tickets will be available on the gate for £7 and £3.
