Flood risk management experts from the Environment Agency will be demonstrating their plans to reduce flood risk in parts of Tonbridge this weekend.

Local residents are encouraged to go along and find out more about the Environment Agency’s plans to reduce flood risk to Avebury Avenue, Barden Road, and Danvers Road.

The public can view the demonstration of interim flood risk contingency plans for the area, which will involve the strategic deployment of sandbags.

Plans for permanent flood alleviation works to protect Tonbridge will also be on display at the Environment Agency trailer, and flood experts will be on hand to give advice on what the local community can do to be prepared.

Members of public can attend the event on Saturday between 9am and 12pm in Ford Carpark, Avebury Avenue.

Tim Norton, Environment Agency flood resilience team leader, said: “Essential exercises like this provide us with a good opportunity to test our plans for flood incidents to limit their devastating impact.

"The exercise in Tonbridge will enable us to put our staff and plans through their paces to ensure that, should it be required, we are able to provide an excellent response and safeguard communities across Tonbridge.

“I am really eager for the Environment Agency to make links with the Tonbridge community so that we can make them aware of the risks of flooding along the River Medway and talk to them about all the things they can do to manage and reduce that risk.”
