The Environment Agency plans to build a low level brick wall in Tonbridge to help protect homes from future floods.

The 300 metre wall will run along the back of the communal car parks in Avebury Avenue from flats 48 to 108, the dentist in Barden Road and flats 112b to 112g in Barden Road.

The EA says that the communal gardens and flow paths in Avebury Avenue acted as flow paths for the River Medway when it burst is banks last year. The wall should stop this from happening.

More than 80 homes in Danvers Road, Barden Road and in the roads south of Avebury Avenue were flooded in December last year.

The EA does not believe the works will detrimental to the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement.
