A young woman who was found dead in the River Medway has been named locally as Shannon Killick.
Police found the 20-year-old’s body in a stretch of river in Tonbridge just after 6.30pm yesterday.
Officers taped off the back fields of Tonbridge Sportsground, known locally as Tinkers Island, following the discovery.
It’s understood Miss Killick previously lived in East Malling but recently moved to Sevenoaks and is a former Aylesford School Sports College pupil.
A Kent Police spokesman today confirmed the body of a woman in her 20s was recovered from the water.
Miss Killick’s death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the north west Kent coroner.
Her next of kin have been informed.
An eyewitness reported seeing a number of police cars at the nearby swimming pool around 8pm.
Ambulances were also spotted in the area around the same time.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance service added: "We sent two ambulances and two cars but sadly the person was pronounced dead on arrival."
The scene was cleared this morning.
