An increased number of speed enforcement checks have been carried out in rural areas across west Kent.

Officers were based in Dean Street, East Farleigh; High-street, Staplehurst and on the A20 in Harrietsham.

A total of 32 vehicles were stopped and eight drivers were reported for offences including driving without a valid MOT certificate, failing to wear a seat-belt and excess speed.

One driver was issued with a notice to amend defects with their vehicle and 11 others were given advice about traffic offences.

Officers from Tonbridge police station carried out similar checks on the A26 near Wateringbury. 13 drivers were reported for speeding offences and one for driving without insurance.

Acting police sergeant Nuri Sadik from Kent Police said: "The locations for these speed checks were chosen by working with local parish councils and residents, who have reported speeding as a concern.

"We were able to gather evidence around other potential offences that we can now investigate further.

"Speeding can put pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists in danger so this summer we are asking all road users to play their part in helping keeping our roads safe."
