Pubs, restaurants and taxi ranks were among locations attended by police as part of an ongoing initiative to promote women's safety.

Officers patrolled the streets of Tonbridge, including the town centre, during a night of engagement on Friday, December 10, with licensed premises, focused on reminding them of how they can safeguard and protect customers.

Police from the Tonbridge and Malling Community Safety were joined by Kent MPs Tracey Crouch, who represents Chatham and Aylesford, and Tonbridge and Maling's Tom Tugendhat.

Venues were reminded of measures to prevent and detect issues including drink spiking.

Staff were given advice and encouraged to promote the Ask for Angela campaign, which enables people to discreetly ask for help if they feel they are in danger.

Patrols were assisted by licensing officers from Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council and the evening also included checks at taxi ranks to ensure drivers were complying with licensing regulations.

Chief Inspector Omid Changizi said: "Initiatives like this build on the significant work already taking place to ensure that women are not only safe but feel safe, within the Tonbridge and Malling district.

"We want to ensure that the night-time economy is a vibrant and enjoyable place for anyone visiting our towns, but we are also determined to make it a hostile environment for would-be perpetrators.

"Our work can include officers providing personal alarms to women who may feel vulnerable if they have to walk home late at night.

"However, it is also sometimes the little things that are as important including reminding those, who may on their own and vulnerable, to safely plan a route home."
