Maltz overcomes odds to take national rackets title

Tonbridge schoolboy Jonny Maltz shrugged off flu to win the National Schools Rackets Junior Colts title at the Queen’s Club in London.
The 15-year old former prep schools squash champion, who lives at Penshurst, beat Will Vanston (14) from Malvern 15-8, 15-2 to become the first Tonbridgean for years to win the crown, and underlined his potential as one of the rising stars in the sport and the school’s professional was full of priase for his performance
He said: “Jonny played beautifully, despite being under the weather. He’s certainly as good as anyone we’ve had for a long time and we’ve got high hopes of him at senior level too.”
Maltz beat Ben Dashwood of Eton in the semi-finals 15-8, 15-2.
