A quick-thinking police officer helped retrieve a stolen Land Rover less than an hour after it had been taken.

The vehicle was taken from Tonbridge town centre car park at around 3.45pm and driven to East Malling on Wednesday, January 19.

An officer from the Tonbridge Community Safety Unit was on patrol in the Vale Road area when he was approached by the victim who explained their car was taken from a nearby car park.

It was quickly established a tablet device had been left in the car and contained track software, which the officer relayed to colleagues.

At 4.35pm the vehicle was successfully located near East Malling railway station.

A police spokesman said: "An investigation is ongoing to identify the offenders and officers have now released an image of a vehicle which enquires have established was travelling in convoy with the stolen Land Rover.

"It was travelling on false number plates and is believed to be either a Ford C-Max or S-Max, with heavily tinted windows."
