Penshurst Place in Kent will be making another national television appearance in the coming month.

Hot on the heels of a starring role in BBC2's Wolf Hall, the historic house will feature as backdrop to Armada: 12 days to save England.

The new three-part BBC2 docudrama will be broadcast on Sunday at 9pm.

Filming took place at Penshurt Place over five days last year during which the Baron's Hall, Sunderland Room and the medieval Buttery within the 14th Century defended manor house were dressed to depict the court of Queen Elizabeth I.

Cast as Queen Elizabeth I, Anita Dobson (Angie Watts, EastEnders) was amongst the actors for the filming.

Ben Thomas, estate manager said, "We were delighted to be chosen as the filming venue for this thought-provoking docudrama. Each year Penshurst Place runs the ‘Great Armada’, a living history event for local schools and weekend visitors where the household prepare for impending invasion by the Spanish fleet.

"Seeing the state rooms and Baron’s Hall dressed to become the court of Elizabeth I really bought to life the authentic period architecture in the house that has remained remarkably unchanged since the 15 century.’"

The new BBC production, presented by Dan Snow, will detail the planned Armadainvasion in 1588.

Each 60-minute episode will show how Queen Elizabeth I evaded a Spanish invasion, illustrated by analysis and comment from prominent historians and drama re-enactment.

Penshurst Place is a popular filming location having appeared in The Great Fire and The Other Boleyn Girl.
