Police have said the death of a woman found lying in the central reservation of the A21 Tonbridge bypass is not being treated as suspicious.
Emergency services were called just before 4.30am to reports a woman had been found beneath a footbridge running over the carriageway.
She was suffering from cardiac arrest and serious injuries when paramedics arrived, but was sadly pronounced dead on the scene around an hour later, at approximately 5.30am.
Queues built around the area and tailed back to the M25 until the northbound carriageway was fully re-opened at 9.30am. The southbound stretch was opened just after 10am.
It was initially shut in both directions between Morley's roundabout and Vauxhall roundabout.
Several roads throughout Tonbridge and Hildenborough areas faced delays for several hours after the incident.
A Kent Police spokesman said the woman's next of kin have been informed.
The case has been passed to the North West Kent Coroner.
